The agreement, in plain English.

Talk with Abby is a private English teaching practice run by one teacher, referred to here as Abby. Using this site, booking a class, or buying a book means you accept these terms.

Lessons and conversation sessions are for adults aged 18 and over, and you confirm your age when you book or create an account. The illustrated stories in the reading room are written for children to read with an adult; the teaching itself is not for children.

Accounts on this site are for confirmed learners. Every sign-up is reviewed by Abby by hand before access is granted, and an account may be declined or closed without a reason being given.

You are responsible for keeping your password private and for anything done through your account.

Classes run for 55 minutes; the free introductory class runs for 20 minutes. Times are shown in your own time zone and stored in UTC.

You may reschedule free of charge up to 12 hours before a class. Inside 12 hours, the hour is held for you and counts as taught. If you arrive late, the class still ends at its scheduled time; if Abby is late, the time is made up or the class is returned to your balance.

All prices are in US dollars and are shown before you pay. Payment is taken by our payment provider; card details never reach this site.

Class packs are credited to your account as classes and do not expire for 12 months from purchase. Circle membership is a monthly subscription that renews until you cancel it, which you can do at any time from your dashboard; access continues to the end of the period you have paid for.

E-books and children's stories are licensed to you for personal, household or single-classroom use. You may print a copy for yourself. You may not resell, republish or redistribute the files.

Because a download is delivered immediately, digital purchases are non-refundable once the file has been opened — but if a file is faulty or will not open, write in and it will be replaced or refunded.

A class that has been taught is not refundable, and neither is a class cancelled by you inside the 12-hour window, because the hour was held for you. If a class is cancelled by Abby and cannot be rescheduled, it is returned to your balance or refunded in full.

Unused classes from a pack are refundable within 30 days of purchase, less the classes already taught at the single-class rate. After that, unused classes stay on your balance for 12 months but cannot be exchanged for cash.

Subscriptions are not refunded for periods already served, and no charge is taken after cancellation.

Classes are not recorded unless both people agree in advance. Lesson notes, corrections and homework written by Abby remain her work and are shared with you for your own study.

Circles are shared spaces. Abusive, discriminatory or disruptive behaviour ends a class immediately and may close an account without refund.

Teaching is a service, not a guaranteed result. No score, exam grade, visa outcome or job offer is promised, and the practice's liability is limited to the amount you paid for the affected classes or books.

Live video depends on your internet connection and on third-party services; where a class is lost to a technical failure on Abby's side, it is returned to your balance.

These terms may be updated; the date below shows the current version, and material changes are announced by email to active learners.
